Why we called it i-Tavi Pay.

In iTaukei — the language spoken by the people of Fiji for centuries — the word tavi means duty, responsibility, role. The obligation one carries to the people who depend on them. It is the word an elder uses when describing their place in a village. The word a parent uses when speaking of what they owe their child. The word that fits when an employer reflects on what they owe the workers who helped build the business.

We chose Tavi because payroll, at its core, is a duty. Every fortnight, a business owner stands between dozens — sometimes hundreds — of families and the money that puts food on their tables. Getting payroll right is not an administrative task. When it is done wrong, real people are harmed: an employee underpaid, a tax return filed incorrectly, an FNPF contribution missed.

i-Tavi Pay binds that responsibility to its execution: the duty (tavi) and the act of paying. It is a name that says, plainly, what we exist to do — and that we take it seriously.

The market we're entering.

We're not naive about it. For more than a decade, Fiji businesses have been sold payroll software with confident promises — compliance, mobile apps, automatic updates, support. Many of those promises did not survive contact with reality. Some platforms were quietly abandoned by their vendors. The community of Fiji business owners has become understandably cautious of any new vendor making any new promise.

We have nothing to say about any one vendor by name. It is not how we operate, and it is not relevant. What is relevant is that trust has to be earned, and the only honest way to earn it is to show, not tell.

So we have made the product itself transparent. Our demo at try.tavipay.com runs the real software — the same code that paying customers will use. We don't ask you to believe what we say about compliance — we encourage you to generate a sample FRCS EMS file yourself and validate the format against the published specification.

Our story

For two decades, Fijian businesses have run payroll on desktop software written for a different era — installed on a single PC, prone to data loss, never quite up to date with the latest FRCS rate changes, with no app for employees, no audit trail, no integration between payroll and HR.

We've worked across hospitality, manufacturing, construction and trades, professional services, retail, transport and not-for-profits — both in Fiji and overseas. The pain was always the same: payroll software that handled the calculation but not the people. HR records in spreadsheets. OHS registers in filing cabinets. Communications via printed memos. Onboarding paperwork that never made it back to HR.

So we built i-Tavi Pay because we wanted one platform that does it all properly — payroll engine, HR records, OHS register, onboarding, in-app communications, leave settlements, people alerts — all wired together so an event in one module flows automatically to the next. No double-entry, no data drift, no gaps for things to fall through.
